Casa Collina in Fermo, Italy is an ideal individual retreat for those who look for a quiet place to write at a reasonable distance from traditional Italian villages amenities.
The retreat is located in Le Marche region in central Italy on the Adriatic coast. This region is not as well known as other Italian regions, but boasts a similar landscape to Tuscany with less tourists and more authenticity.
The retreat lies on a hill perched between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea and is surrounded by lush, fertile fields that are caressed by the sea wind and laboured by man.
It is a perfect place to write while inspired by the intense beauty of the varied landscape around the retreat (sea, countryside, mountains, villages).
The Retreat features an independent apartment on the first floor of a house recently restored and a garden around the house (800 sq meters). The apartment offers a bedroom with a queen size bed, a spacious working/sitting room which opens to the garden, a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom. The interior is modern and comfortable. Though a bike is made available, it is highly recommended to rent a car for your stay. All shops and services are at 2-3 kilometers distance from the Retreat.
Your Host, Alessia: I am an Italian lawyer living in France where I work for a public fund that supports film production. I am from Fermo and a few years ago I decided to buy Casa Collina, which for me is a magical place where one can genuinely be creative, rest and enjoy the best of the region. I go there myself twice a year to write and to find inspiration. I am passionate about literature and cinema and I have followed creative writing courses during the last few years. Professionally I regularly read screenplays and give feedback.
While at the retreat, I offer residents free skype coaching sessions to the writer - fiction and screenwriting.
Your Host and Retreat Operator: Alessia.
Region: Fermo is situated in the southern part of “Le Marche” region. The region lies on the eastern side of central Italy, between the Adriatic Sea and the high Apennine mountains and much of its territory remains unspoilt by the ravages of mass tourism. Perhaps more so than anywhere else in central Italy, you will find places where time really has stood still.
Fermo has a splendid main square (Piazza del Popolo) and an unusual cathedral (il Duomo) surrounded by gardens, built on the summit. It is surrounded by dozens of small hilltop towns, most of which were originally its castles. Four kilometers from Casa Collina lays Torre di Palme, one the best examples of medieval towns in the region.
Location: The retreat is located approximately 4 kilometers from Fermo and Porto San Giorgio. The closest train station is Porto San Giorgio.
