Experience rural life in a village on the wild and rugged Canadian Shield. This heritage suite overlooks historic Tamworth's main street. A perfect getaway to focus on research, be creative or to reflect. The Bon Eco Design studio/workshop close by has space available to rent by the day or week.
Tamworth is a place to become familiar with rural Canadians. Swap stories with local farmers at the lunch counter in the corner store.
Delicious food at the River Bakery comes with a side of conversation.
Farmers, artists/artisans, business owners and professionals make up this diverse community. Some residents have recently arrived from urban centres seeking a slower pace and others are descendants of willful people who came and turned the land to raise a family.
If you prefer a solitary stay, we encourage a bike ride on our scenic country roads, a hike, swim or picnic in the rolling landscape of forests, granite and fresh water. Hans and Carolyn are available to show you around or direct you to some remote spots to call your own.
Bring a camera, you could see deer, porcupine, beaver and maybe a moose.
Outside your door is a selection of products and services including: bank, grocery store, bakery, pharmacy, corner store, tearoom, video store, library, liquor store, Royal Canadian Legion (a place to play darts, cards or have a drink), service station, Regal Beagle (dog hotel), Spindletree Gardens, Dark Skies observation platform (ask for details).
Carolyn Butts and Hans Honegger own and operate Bon Eco Design since 2005. Their home and business share the same location in the village of Tamworth.
Carolyn is a designer/fabricator with a background in museum exhibits and set design. Hans is a restoration architect. Together they design and fabricate objects and spaces with an environmental sensitivity. Their home and studio space is available to come and relax or to share thoughts and ideas. They are enthusiastic about nature, both physical and human, and enjoy company. There will introduce you to locals and offer a meal or two in their home.
