Georgian House overlooking Schull Harbour in West Cork, Ireland.
A few minutes walk to the vibrant village Schull and 1.5 hour drive to Cork Airport. Bus service available twice a day.
This is an open house where the fire, the kettle and the chats are always there when you need them. Art, music and books... everywhere.
Imagine an old house sitting at the edge of a village in Southern Ireland, overlooking the harbour, where the stunning Mount Gabriel watches down and protects the bay.
Imagine that George Bernard Shaw stayed in this house and on his departure signed the guestbook with a poem back in 1904.
That Jack B Yeats signed the same book a few years later and other famous artists like Ross and Edith Somerville also kept returning to this magical place.
Imagine your spacious and airy room where you can sit in peace and quiet and read and not be disturbed.
Imagine a boat trip out to Cape Clear when the writing needs a bit of fresh air. Or a long walk along the shore when you need to gather your thoughts for the next chapter.
Where the food being cooked is growing in the garden outside and it will help feed you when the energy is needed.
That is Grove House.
Grove House loves creativity and you can feel it the minute you walk through that front door. It has homed so many writers and artists for a long time and the list is growing.
The house has its Georgian style and has kept its architectural details while the walls are filled with contemporary art and books everywhere.
Every year we have more and more writers from all over the world. One man from Tokyo staying three months every year, one girl who married a local farmer/songwriter and is now living here, one who just sent me a copy of her first novel...and the stories keep coming.
In the dining room there is also room for a grand piano that often is used in small concerts and Katarina, the owner of Grove House, teaches piano during the winter. This offers a lovely stream of notes spread through the house when the winter storms are howling.
Grove House also hosts a lot of gigs and art exhibitions.
In the area of Schull and West Cork there is an enormous amount of artistic talent and if you are lucky you might catch a glimpse of Camilla, our famous opera singer do an aria with Katarina.

Region: Schull is a old fishing village that sits between mount Gabriel and the Atlantic. It's a village with activity all year around and we are proud and happy to have a fantastic book shop.
Our nearest larger towns are Skibbereen and Bantry and there is a bus service for guests without a car.
If you follow the road west along the coast you will find some of the most beautiful landscape in Ireland. Rolling green fields, hills, and the forever changing colours of the sea.
West Cork is notorious for its artistic flair. There are so many writers, musicians and artists living in the area that sometimes you'd be spoiled for choice when it comes to performances. But when you are here you can see why they like want to stay...the serenety, the colours, the air, the people and not to forget the craic...
