3-day
clinic on the Art and Craft of Screenwriting.
For
those interested in screenwriting, or adapting
stories or novels for the screen.
Purpose: Screenwriting
is both an art and a craft. Screenwriters need
to know about the 3-act structure, about
creating dimensional characters, about
integrating theme and cinematic images into
their work. Writers also need to be artists -
finding their artistic voice and affirming
their point-of-view. This 3-day clinic will focus
specifically on the work of participants, with
mini-lectures as needed to discuss concepts.
Participants
will learn about
the art and craft of screenwriting, and how to create both artistic
and well-crafted screenplays. They will see
how the elements need to all work together to
make great screenplays, and see ways to
resolve script problems to create an
integrated, cohesive script. They will learn
from the analysis of each other's work, from
the work of Dr. Seger's analysis as a script
consultant, and from discussions with each
other about each other's projects.
Participants
may choose from the following options - one
being mandatory:
- Script
Treatments -
$650 for 10 pages long. If longer, add
$50/page up to 15 pages.
|
|
- Script
Overview Plus Script Notes
- $1500
Includes a 12-15 page report, plus written notations
on the script. Script Notes includes
suggestions for scenes that could be cut
or condensed, dialogue that could be
clearer, possible character changes and
where to insert story changes.

All
material shall be submitted to The
Writers' Retreat at least 40 days prior to
the script clinic dates.
Participants
are asked to bring laptops if possible.
Depending on the number of participants,
we may work more than half a day on a
script, and demonstrate a development
meeting where the writer begins the
rewrite in the meeting.
"The
Writer's Retreat in Cascade is a special
experience where you will have your
treatment or script analyzed for half
a day. I spend about 2 hours on each
person's project, and then we have
input from the other writers in the group,
who also learn through the analysis of
each other's project. Since we are a small
group, we share lunches and dinners
together, as well as one dinner at my
home. Some of you may choose to stay an
extra day or two to write in the
mountains. The Rocky Mountain Lodge and
the Inn at Cascade are across the street
from my home. Eastholme and Blue Spruce
are down the road, but within 1/4 of a
mile. This is one of the most
beautiful places on earth, and a high (in
altitude and attitude) creative
experience. I look forward to working with
you." Linda
Seger

"I highly recommend
this clinic. Linda's personal attention to my
writing and the insight into where I needed to
go with the plot simply amazed me. Her style
is warm, thoughtful and appropriately direct,
and I felt hope when I left Colorado... it was
like Linda had a crystal ball focused directly
on my script's future...
The other writers in my
group would agree... there is something
magical about this experience." B.
Malouf.
"Thanks again for
everything, it was such an AMAZING weekend for
me. I felt that it was, indeed, a
"turning point." Thank you for
inspiring me in so many ways. You really
made me realize what it means to live life on
purpose and to live a life that counts. I
have a personal "collection" in my
mind of powerful women who have inspired me
along my journey, and I'm glad to say that
I've found another one in you! Thank
you, thank you, thank you...for being faithful
to your calling, your giftings, your God,
yourself." J. Hillebrand
